Standing committees are committees that meet regularly and are consistent year to year. They generally advise departments and offices or focus on a specific issue. A number, though not all, of the Standing Committees are University-wide committees organized by the Office of the Secretary of the Faculty. A directory of those committees is available here. Students are appointed to these committees in the spring and fall of each year. The appointment process involves filling out an application and attending an interview. Short Term (Ad Hoc) Committees
Short term committees often arise unexpectedly and are created to deal with a specific issue or hiring decision. They are dissolved after completing their charge. Application procedures are varied; check the ASM Shared Governance website mainpage often for open positions. These committees generally have an appointment process involving a cover letter and rÃ©sumÃ© and an interview.
