Sustainability Advisory Board

Background of the Office

The Office of Sustainability is responsible for implementing the Campus-wide Sustainability Initiative, developing and facilitating sustainability principles in education, research, and campus operations; and serving all aspects of campus, including the academic units and departments in operations. As such, the Office promotes crosscutting practices and initiatives related to sustainability on our campus.  The intent is to harness the diversity, knowledge, and enthusiasm of the University’s students, faculty, and staff to promote a campus that studies sustainability and implements what is learned in campus practices.

Advisory Board Mission, Activities, and Meetings
The Advisory Board will assist the Office of Sustainability in connecting with students, faculty, and staff on campus.  The Advisory Board will also serve as a source of new ideas and as a sounding board for strategic plans and initiatives.  The Board will meet formally at least once each semester.  Members of the Advisory Board may become involved in work groups organized by the Office of Sustainability on specific topics in their area of interest or expertise (this opportunity is available to, but not required of Advisory Board members).  All Board members are appointed to one-year renewable terms and are expected to attend scheduled meetings.
Membership

The Advisory Board consists of 25 members, encompassing a breadth of campus education, research, and operations. The Board is about half "operations" and half "academics," plus a representative of University Communications, as well as two student representatives (1 graduate, 1 undergraduate).

2011-2012 ASM Appointees: Graham Ryan (graduate); Julia Kinsey (undergraduate)

Meeting schedule: The first meeting/orientation is scheduled for Thurs. Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The board will meet approximately twice per semester.
