Legislative Affairs

The Legislative Affairs Committee advocates for students at the city and state level. Last year, the committee successfully lobbied on alcohol policy at the city level and met with administrators to implement a Responsible Action Policy at the University. We held the first UW-Madison Housing Fair and lobbied the City Council on downtown development issues. We also lobbied intensely on the Voter ID bill at the state level.
This year, we are going to hold the second UW-Madison Housing Fair and work to increase the spread of information to student tenants about their rights as renters in response to recent state legislation. We are also working to Get Out The Vote and educate students about the recently passed Voter ID bill and the impact it has on students’ ability vote. Finally, we will work with the City on alcohol policy and lobby our state legislators for increased funding for higher education and for increased financial aid.
The Legislative Affairs Committee meets every Monday night from 7-9 PM in the Caucus Room of the Student Activities Center.
