Diversity Initiatives

Vision

Our vision is a reshaped mindset of diversity at UW-Madison so it is more natural in campus life. As truly broadening the intellectual scope of UW-Madison is critical to students’ education, the university must understand the true dynamics and importance of this ever-evolving concept. Additionally, we seek a changed perception outside of Madison so we can attract larger applicant pools and a more diverse faculty. This change is aimed at people who assess our university, such as prospective students and businesses, so they know that students at Madison are open minded and can work productively with people from different backgrounds with different perspectives.

Mission

The ASM Diversity Initiative seeks to connect all UW students, faculty, admissions, administration, organizations, and programs with a common goal of experiencing a diverse college campus. Together, this comprehensive network will improve university policies and procedures to explore a new direction: a broader definition of diversity that considers all aspects of one’s ideas, character, and background. While working with these entities to find a common approach to diversity on campus, we will engage this network in discussing and addressing campus inclusion/diversity-related issues as they occur. Diversity Intiatives will also work toward establishing and supporting an alliance of organizations so that events and initiatives that add to UW’s overall diversity are more successful. Please direct any ideas and comments you may have to solikara@wisc.edu.

Interested in joining the Diversity Initiatives Staff? Please contact me, detailing why you are interested and if you have any relevent experience. This is an exciting time, as we establish the direction of diversity initiatives for many years to come. You can be a part of this legacy.

Want to voice your opinion? I am always looking for people who can broaden our perspective and challenge our ideas. Please feel free to contact me or come in during office hours (please let me know ahead of time if you do plan on coming in). Let me know if you're interested in attending a Staff meeting as well.
