Diversity Committee
The Diversity Committee advocates for an inclusive student government as well as an inclusive UW campus. By initiating thought- and action-provoking programming throughout the year, the committee seeks to educate and motivate the student body at-large. Working on social justice issues for under-represented students, the committee works towards for a welcoming campus climate for students who identify with a wide variety of cultural, ethnic, racial, sexuality, gender, ability, and socioeconomic groups.
Academic Affairs Committee
The Academic Affairs Committee is committed to working on academic issue such as tuition, textbook costs, and the quality of classes. The committee presses academic departments to launch peer advising, publishes course evaluations online every semester, and will be starting a pilot textbook rental program in the 2006-2007 school year.
Shared Governance Committee
The Shared Governance Committee appoints students to over 50 campus committees that make decisions about transportation, athletics, and campus life. It does so in the spirit of Wisconsin state statute 36.09(5), which guarantees students the right to have input in university decisions that affect their lives. Students often have to press administrators in order to have more than advisory authority over important decisions, and the Shared Governance Committee constantly applies this necessary pressure to increase the power of students.
Legislative Affairs Committee
The Legislative Affairs Committee lobbies politicians at the local, state, and national level in order to adequately promote student interests. The committee holds press conferences, forwards resolutions to the ASM Student Council, collaborates with other student organizations, and advocates for lower tuition, tenant rights, and other relevant legislative issues.
Campus Relations Committee
The Campus Relations Committee serves as the public relations arm of ASM and continuously reaches out to the student body to promote activities or seek input. CRC enhances ASM's visibility by facilitating communication between ASM and the student body, advertising ASM events, publicizing students issues, and coordinating media strategies for ASM. The Campus Relations Committee is also the listening branch of the student government. In this role they respond to student concerns. For example, last semester CRC worked on issues relating to campus safety ? a concern that students frequently bring up.
