Brittany initially got involved after transferring to UW in the spring of 2006 because she was interested in politics and wanted to learn more about university governance. She has stayed involved because she feels ASM is an organization that empowers students to take action and make changes on campus.
Accomplished: Writing press office job descriptions and working to get it started. Served on SSFC, completed an internship, served as an intern coordinator. As Finance Chair, I secured funding for hundreds of student organizations, whose activities contribute to the flourishing campus life here at Madison. Addressing past issues with the organization and working to implement concrete changes. Worked with many students and have had the opportunity to learn how to work with a variety of different personalities. Addressed issues that have been occurring for years but were not being addressed.
Still hope to accomplish: Leading a transition team that will effectively move the organization to a new structure. Improve our press relations and messaging to campus. Complete a 5 to 10 year strategic plan for the organization. Implement and institutionalize changes that will make Student Council positions more meaningful. Continue to move ASM in a direction where all committees and boards work together as one organization working for students as opposed to several separate committees.
Student Council oversees all aspects of ASM. It has final authority over all advocacy efforts, services (i.e. funding), and membership in shared governance committees.
Attending "UW-Madison Day" at last year's State Fair with Hannah Karns and Lori Berquam.
Moving to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and will be teaching elementary education for at least two years. I would like to pursue a career in law and public policy (specifically, education policy). Eventually I may consider running for public office, but before that I would like to either work with policy or school law.
