Adam started with the Shared Governance Committee in September of 2007. Since then, he has served as an intern, Shared Governance appointee on two committees, and chair of a research campaign on quality and accessible education, and he has worked with three recruitment drives.
Completely revising the Shared Governance bylaws, interview process, and website; creating an appointee training; switching to issue-based discussions at meetings. I'd say that I feel most accomplished, though, when I get compliments on appointees or the shared governance process from faculty, staff, and administrators across campus! That's not just my accomplishment, but my entire committee's.
Shared Governance advocates for student input in all decisions that affect students. To accomplish this goal, Shared Governance appoints students to serve on student, faculty and staff committees across campus.
I don't really have a specific "favorite ASM memory" but my favorite part of being in ASM is the awesome group of people I'm around every day. This job is really stressful, but everyone is fun and really cares about what they do.
I heard about the kickoff and went to find out more. Shared Governance seemed like a great committee to me, and I just kept branching out from there. It's hard for me to just do a little of something.
I am hoping to take a few years off, do some volunteer work (at this time I'm leaning towards HIV/AIDS education with a nonprofit somewhere abroad) and then come back for medical school. I'd like to specialize in infectious diseases. I also may do an MD/MPH. As far as an end goal, I hope to found and run a nonprofit building healthcare infrastructure and doing economic development work in poorer parts of the United States and lesser developed nations.
