To apply to be a member of a standing committee, fill out the application below and attach it in an email to Shared Governance Chair, Melissa Hanley. All applications are expected electronically. Download a copy of the application here: Standing Committee Application 2009-2010
Tips for applying:
- The committee wants to see your knowledge about and passion for the specific committees to which you are applying - stay focused on the aims of your committee!
- Do some research! Check out the committee descriptions in the directory, go on the faculty senate web page, check campus newspaper archives for mentions...that background will help you a lot!
- Communicate that you can communicate! Even more than showing us specific knowledge, you need to convince us that you can be an effective advocate for students in a large group setting. Do you have experience on large committees, or chairing meetings for a student organization? Tell us!
- You're more likely to get a seat when you demonstrate that you're exceptionally qualified for two or three committees than when you apply for seats on ten committees without giving us specifics.
- Be professional! You'll be interacting with other students, faculty, and staff on these committees, and we want you to make a good impression!
After submitting an application, you may need to attend an interview. If you cannot attend your interview time, you should submit a Personal Statement to the Shared Governance Chair. For information on specific committees, check out the Directory.
